Five Items That Will Make You Look Like a True Parisian

Street fashion is constantly evolving and, even though it is usually associated with rebellious teenagers and youth subcultures, Parisians usually prefer chic, sober and slightly androgynous outfits which have already inspired numerous high street brands and some of the world’s greatest fashion houses, including H&M, Zara, Armani, Ralph Lauren and Burberry.
While Parisian street fashion tends to change in response to the latest trends, there are five basic items which every fashion-conscious woman walking around the streets of Paris seems to possess.

1. A Camel-Coloured Trench Coat
Although Paris is nowhere near as rainy as London, it is known for its unexpected, sudden showers, which is why Parisian women tend to wear tight-fitting neutral-coloured trench coats nonstop from October to April.
For an effortlessly-chic touch, make sure that your sleeves are rolled up and tie your belt in a knot.
2. A Dark Blazer / Tailored Jacket
Relaxed-fit dark blazers are extremely versatile and can be used to create slightly masculine looks. One-button tailored jackets with padded shoulders, on the other hand, are more feminine as they contribute to creating the illusion of a long and slender figure by emphasizing the waist and the shoulders.
3. A neutral-coloured t-shirt, shirt or jumper (depending on the weather)
Depending on the season, Parisian women are often spotted wearing plain, neutral-coloured t-shirts, shirts and jumpers underneath their trench coats and blazers. This particular combination is ideal if you want to look stylish and casual at the same time and, last but not least, it is suitable for most occasions and urban environments.
4. A Pair of Cuffed Jeans
Cuffed jeans are quickly becoming one of the world’s most widespread fashion trends, as not only do they look casual and chic, they are also allow their wearers to show off their ankles or, alternatively, their shoes. Parisian women seem to have developed a real passion for cuffed jeans, to the extent that during the past few months, Emmanuelle Alt, the current editor of French Vogue, has been spotted wearing cuffed jeans, trousers and even combats, on countless occasions.

5. A Bright-Coloured, Patterned Dress
As versatile as jeans and neutral-coloured trousers may be, Parisian women know exactly how to step up their game when the situation requires it. Bright-coloured, patterned dresses are quite easy to come across in Paris, which is why they are now often associated with Parisian street fashion. Polka dots, horizontal stripes and floral motifs are extremely common and light, slightly see-through fabrics are worn to informal and semi-formal events. However, wearing a patterned dress won’t suffice, as Parisian street fashion is all about unusual and bold combinations. In occasion of the last year’s Paris Fashion Week, for example, fashion blogs and news websites from all over the world shared pictures of hundreds of women walking around the streets of Paris in elegant, bright-coloured dresses matched with oversized coats, masculine blazers and capes.
